How it works

From your first call to a plan that’s signed

This is the written version of the video. Most families go through these five steps; some stop after the second.

  1. 01

    Step 1: A short call

Fifteen minutes with one of our lawyers. Tell us what’s happening and what the school has said. We’ll tell you whether we can help, and if we can’t, who might.

  2. 02

Step 2: Send us the file

The IEP or 504 plan, evaluations, report cards, and the emails that matter. We send a secure upload link; please don’t use the contact form for these.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A written review

We read everything and write to you: what we see, what we’d ask the school for, and what it would cost. You decide from there, with no obligation.

  4. 04

    Step 4: The meeting

We prepare you, write to the school ahead of time, and come to the IEP, 504 or discipline meeting with you, in person or by video.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Follow through

We check the plan the school sends against what was agreed, and stay on if it needs mediation, a complaint or a hearing.

What families ask about the process

Does my child have to come to meetings with you?

Usually not. For older students we may suggest they join part of an IEP meeting, and in discipline cases we talk with them, always with you there.

Do you work with families outside Fairfax?

Yes, across Northern Virginia, and by video for meetings further away. We’ll tell you on the first call if your case is somewhere we can’t take it.

What does the written review cost?

We quote it on the first call, once we know how much paperwork there is. You’ll know the price before you send anything.

Step one is a fifteen-minute call

Call or write, and one of us will call you back within a working day.

A first call doesn’t make us your lawyers; a signed engagement letter does.
